Comment on "Digital Signatures" just ask you to type your name into a box now. Am I right in thinking this almost-completely defeats the purpose of a signature?

IMO, that’s not a digital signature. That’s a normal signature on a computer. Digital signatures involve cryptography. For example, OpenPGP.
