This is kind of something that actually happens (or at least used to happen) in India.

If a man rapes a woman, people say that he must marry the woman, because “her honour is ruined” or something, and nobody else will accept her as a wife.

I’m pretty sure this still happens in rural areas, where panchayat is the judge and jury.
