Was it tony Bliar who got round a hosepipe ban by using the hosepipe to fill his water butt? I’m sure it was some politician anyway.
Comment on Thames Water announces hosepipe ban

Hosepipes and pressure washers should not be used to:
water gardens, lawns, or allotments (this includes the use of sprinklers)
Plants and gardens can be watered with a watering can, and cars can be washed using a bucket
Filled with a hosepipe?..
What a bullshit performative measure. Many drier and hotter places manage to get by without hosepipe bans. The profits generated via private water should have been invested in greater reservoir storage or networking to access water from areas of the country more rich in it. But why bother investing in infrastructure for millions when you can just slap on a ban and lounge on your new super yacht I guess?

It’s a bit of the case that they don’t have many ways to restrict use and this is one of the few that they do, PM it gets used.
But I agree that the private owners of water supply companies don’t seem to have spent enough on maintenance or supply storage.
