i know that many users float on the 'new' queues of their home instances for content... if it isnt in the first dozen pages it might get missed

Ah, it’s interesting. I notice I do this myself.
So there’s probably an initial rush on “New” that lasts a few hours, and then you move into the slow and steady trickle of the less frequent posters who scroll a curated feed.
That explains a lot. Thanks!
