Carighan@piefed.world 1 week agoI mean that’s also woefully outdated. Just use the installers they already provide and put them on a thumbdrive, there’s a solid chance that’ll last far longer than a burnt disc would, too.

Optical storage is much cheaper than physical storage at the moment. If I wanted to back up my entire steam library, it would be less expensive to do it with a mix of Blu-rays and DVDs. Blu-rays are also good from 10-50 years, with archival grade good for up to 100 years.
Now, yes, I can just burn the installers to the disc, so that’s fine, but I’m talking specifically about them released big box games, where I don’t necessarily want the game, but I do want the launcher/installer experience as it was when it was first released.
