Comment on How well do desktop ice maker hold up to hard water? Do they go super crusty and hard to clean? Can you run vinegar through them?
Vinegar is supposedly relatively aggressive an can harm seals. Citric acid is better.
I will second citric acid.
We had a desktop ice maker with hard water and after about 3 months had issues with ice ejection. Well before then there was visible calcium build-up on the interior surfaces.
