Comment on PlayStation sales just had its worst May in 25 years, and Xbox's was the worst ever—Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 just became the second-fastest-selling console in US history; and other insights

A 1year old Nintendo handheld that is portable and comes with a screen for $450 or a 6ish year old anchor that is $650 feels like a no-brainer. Plus the Switch 2 still plays all of the same games (except exclusives on the other consoles obviously) just maybe not as well, but good enough.

Anyone that was going to buy a PS5/Xbox has probably already bought one, so it makes sense for sales to slow. Their probably down to a few stragglers and people replacing dead units.

Plus as the price creeps closer to PC levels consoles kind of lose their appeal. A pretty decent gaming laptop can still run about $1,000ish, the Legion/Ally/Steam Deck handhelds will run about $600 to $1,000. Also the PC games will work on any PC in the future, so your library keeps going instead of starting over every generation.
