9point6@lemmy.world 1 month agoYeah if it’s not owned by a bank, it will be owned by an institution that runs (or otherwise has access to) a proprietary interbank network. In most countries consumer financial services are super regulated legally, so everything gets locked down

It’s not the regulations, it’s the banks. They’re super paranoid, everything has to be proprietary. And at the same time their backends are all ancient and seriously decrepit. Which has to be kept secret and airgapped from the public.
