Fiery@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks agoIt does, dns happens before the request to the server happens. So instead of connecting to the ad-server the dns says ‘the resource you’re looking for doesn’t exist’ and the ad never loads.

Yeah, you’re correct.
There’s another problem yet: a lot of ads nowadays use the main domain of the site as the source. So you can’t block it without blocking the site as a whole.
