AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 2 weeks agoYeah, I’m old. I got my CS degree in 1985 - so I was into computers pre-internet, certainly pre-world-wide-web. When the web started booming and everyone was making we pages with all sort of content, and when search engines were really trying to just find the stuff you were looking for with no other agenda, I was so full of hope. I thought this was really going to be a technology that could get information to anyone who wanted it, people would be more informed, and it would really bring us all closer together.
In other words, I was a naive dumb ass.

Modern tech philosophy has changed so much from those days. My passion for the Internet and technology has waned and I really only hang out in niche corners of the Internet now. I’m no longer inspired or fascinated by tech… IDK if that’s just getting older or if it’s the commercialization of every aspect of the Internet. I’ll say modern tech has me more cynical.
