I find that being made aware of my mistakes helps me be more diligent in the future, so i'd want to know.

Same. I can’t fix what I don’t know I broke. As long as it’s constructive, point out where I dropped the ball so I can be mindful of it.
Maybe his dad would even remember the spot and acknowledge a difficulty he faced, opting next situation of a similar type to seek a second set of eyes (assuming OP and dad have both of their eyes)!
