my own server is about 13 years old, and only about 6.5 TB capacity. it’s an old iMac running Mac OS 10.13.6, and I can’t believe it’s still working, but it’s a beast, and it’s stable as fuck. but one of these days, it’s either just gonna die suddenly, or Plex will finally drop support.
Docker dropped support years ago, and I can only run 20.10.8, which is ancient. fortunately, all of the containers I run are current on this docker build, but I can’t run them via compose– I have to run them via cli run commands, which I have set up via an elaborate set of bash scripts.
I run both servers headlessly via my web browser through Portainer and webUIs.
my buddy’s server is only about a year old. it’s a top-of-the-line System76 Meerkat with an external 4-bay HDD enclosure with 40TB of Seagate drives inside. Only taking up 3 bays, and he’s looking to upgrade soon. I have’t upgraded it to the latest Pop!OS 24.04 yet because I remote in using RustDesk, and it doesn’t play nice with Wayland yet. Ugh, _still…
