Even taking the Roman Catholic definition (i.e where the word martyr comes from that’s completely wrong.
These two categories are not mutually exclusive.
You come across as the sort of person that would berate a grieving parent for referring to their dead child as a “little angel”.

Berate? Why do you come to this conclusion? Does it matter to parents whether they call the child a “martyr” or a “victim”? In both cases the child is dead?

The fact that you don’t know the difference between a dictionary and an encyclopaedia suggests that you’re not exactly an authority on the matter.

Encyclopedia example was answer on you remark about historical contents. And Cambridge directly contradict you, there is no victim there. OED marked that meaning as obsolete. Only webster prove your point.
