People tend to stick their chin out/lean forward when using laptops, even with a standing desk as the screen is too low compared to the keyboard height.
This can put a lot of strain on the muscles at the back of the neck as they as not designed to hold the weight of the head but stabilise it as the weight rests on the neck vertebrae.

This may be what caused the neck pain.
