Comment on Bill Burr Says Stop Blaming Immigrants, Blame Billionaires | SubwayTakes Uncut [13:16]
RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 month agoOh no not increased labour costs, clearly abusive working conditions are better than having to pay more for labour. If you can’t do affordable strawberries without using illegal immigrants as your workforce then I’d say we probably should do without affordable strawberries.

could/should/would is irrelevant. people want cheap strawberries.

Here’s an idea: open the borders AND give people decent work condition.
acosmichippo@lemmy.world 1 month ago
absolutely. at no point did i argue against decent work conditions for anyone.

Somehow other countries manage without abusing illegal immigrantion on such a massive scale. Hell, some places have all those workers unionized.

do those contries also share a 3,000 km border with Mexico?
RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
Well that’s conveniently about the length of the Mediterranean border (in a straight line). Then you ofc would add the rest if you wanted to consider EU’s external border.

Opening borders is a good way to ensure decent working conditions are never achieved since there’s a constant influx of people coming in willing to work for less. And you royally screw over the workers who are already living there.
Might suck for the origin country too if all the people are drained from there to work abroad. But that’s a larger topic.
