I do not think that Trump was fully in on the manufacturing process and just put faith in science like any typical boomer.
Trump is one of the best (if not the best) politicians that conservatives/libertarians/anyone who is alternative to the establishment has... But he is not perfect, and in order to be in the mainstream with some amount of success, he can't be so based as to be self-canceling.
You know, philosophers cannot actually be politicians because they are more about the truth than appealing to people. So, I am not even sure if we can necessarily say that it's Trump's job to be 100% right about everything.

he still stands by it though I think right?
so then what is to be made of this? he just dismisses vaers, news stories of "sudden adult dying syndrome", and constituents saying to change his stance?

THIS. Exactly this is the problem

He stopped pushing it.

well that's good, I wasn't aware of him saying like "whoops sorry don't get vaccines they're bad" or something to that extent

He merely stopped making it a part of his campaigns - and it is annoying everybody that he refuses to admit he was wrong. Like, DeSantis is the way, but Trump carries a bigger presence. It is very conflicting!
