My plan was to try to use 14-style razors from Moarteen shipping day until Moarteen delivery day, but the postal service wasn’t fast enough (or my 14 collection is too small, but the Moarteen will help mitigate that soon), and I’ve used all of them. So going forward, I will be going through 14-style-adjacent razors starting with the venerable Friodur 17, which was reportedly offered as a 14 alternative for the Japanese market which favoured heavier grinds. The two are very similar in overall outline, but the 17 blade is 7/8" wide (vs the 8/8" of the 14) but weights more due to the thicker grind.

My next 14-style-adjacent razor is the modern Friodur 8/8, which looks like the 1980s redesign of the 14: straight, clear, industrial lines without the playful curves of earlier decades. I’m not sure I’ll need to use it immediately, though, since my Moarteen should arrive today and I’m eager to check it out after work.
