Comment on U.S. Institute of Peace Staff in U.S. Fired as Trump Seeks Nonprofit’s End

This happens to be a nonprofit, which while funded by congress, has some level of independence. The President isn’t supposed to be able to shut it down like this, and it took coercing the guards’s boss and having cops break into their offices to get to this point.

The fall of the institute should not be used as a poster child for your valid complaints.
There are hundreds of other things that have been done in the last weeks, that fall under your observations, that are worthy of mourning.

This is the one that put up the stiffest resistance, in part because the guard on duty the first time DOGE showed up didn’t have a key to the inner door.
They deserve recognition for that.

It was old guard American empire, its status between private organization, government, and war criminals very blurry.
Its demise will be celebrated by many. I’m glad I outlived it; I thought decades ago it would just persist maybe forever. I can rest easier tonight.
In the fight between the oligarchs, this is a welcome casualty . I really don’t care about its final days.
