Mchugho@lemmy.world 11 months agoPeople who think that all societies problems can be solved by throwing cash at them live in an overly simplistic and naive black and white reality.
Just give mentally ill people who are addicted to hard drugs a load of cash and see what happens. If your solution is to kill these people so that they’re no longer a problem I suppose that works.
I’m tired of people who think taxing the rich will suddenly convert us into a utopia, and this is coming from someone who supports taxing the rich more.

It’s not “black and white”, it’s what the data supports.
In the UK you already have mental health services, what more do you need to do? If they’re not seeking help then being punitive and imprisoning them isn’t going to suddenly improve their lives. How do you think the state could be more involved without being absolutely inhumane?
Taxing the rich isn’t going to fix anything at all if those tax dollars just go back into incentives for corporations; i.e. right back into the pockets of the wealthy.
