Lemmy.ml uses the same software. It's maintained by the two main developers of lemmy the software. They are both communist. One from Europe, one from the states by the looks of it. I also contribute to lemmy but not full-time like they do. I'll fix bugs or implement a feature if we need it.
Lemmy.ml censors like crazy, but the software is good and I agree with the goals even if our politics are not aligned.
The software is federated, meaning that each instance shares each other's data. If they aren't blocking each other. Lemmy.ml blocked us so you can't post to lemmy from here.
The more instances the better, more instances make it harder to censor and if one goes down post still live on another.
If you need help setting up a instance I'm always here and can walk you through it. It can be very cheap and you can increase resources as needed.

yeah mob basically explained it
lemmy is the code, which wolfballs runs. lemmy.ml also runs the same code, and they do a lot of developing for it. it's open source so anyone can run it, and contribute to the project.
so there are like 50 sites (instances) that run using the lemmy code: https://join-lemmy.org/instances
another site that has more of a wolfballs attitude is exploding-heads.com
because of federation, when people post here or over there (exploding heads), some of the posts basically like post to that other instance as well (it enables both audiences to have conversations with each other). lemmy.ml blocked wolfballs and wolfballs has done likewise in response (LOL).

I see, thanks for the info. I'm gonna stick here and try to grow Wolfballs some. Though it'd be fun to talk with people on lemmy.ml
