Both Ukraine and the United States had opportunities to avoid this trajectory. Ukraine’s failure to join NATO was largely due to systemic corruption, while the U.S. has sent billions of dollars with little oversight or accountability. If one fails to recognize the prioritization of financial gain over human life in this context, they are overlooking a key aspect of the situation.
