I think the idea is that he was a Jew but welcomed gentiles into the faith so technically all Christians are Jews in the eyes of Jesus.
Jesus didn’t came here to create Christianity, he was the fulfillment of a Jewish prophecy, Christianity exists because some Jews didn’t believe it.
