Upon determining that she had not yet learned language, linguists saw her as providing an opportunity to gain further insight into the processes controlling language acquisition skills and to test theories and hypotheses identifying critical periods during which humans learn to understand and use language.
Even the low bar of common sense in academics someone should have realised this is not an appropriate experiment.

I think thats more like a “Lets see how much language she can learn at this stage” type of thing, rather than some evil mad scientist experiment…

If you see someone who has been abused to a point where it’s interesting, I think the only action should be shielding instead of learning. I can recognize the unique opportunity but still…
